A History of Crime and Disorder: Nur’s Background

Although Nur admitted the murder when he appeared at Derby Crown Court on 21 August, He never revealed the reason behind the crime. Detective Inspector Tony Owen, the senior investigating officer, said Nur’s silence simply «compounds the pain of Danny’s loved ones, leaving them with lifelong questions.»

During the interview, Nur said that he had started drinking at 8:30 am on the day of the murder. He consumed three bottles of vodka and a case of beer, and that I couldn’t remember anything. He also mentioned that he had suffered from mental health problems since he was eight years old, and that his condition worsened in 2016, when his fiancée was shot dead by his father in front of him.

As reconstructed by the Court, Nur had arrived in the United Kingdom on a small boat in October 2024. The researchers also found that on May 6, Nur had made multiple calls to a helpline before the murderwhere he expressed his unhappiness with his current situation. Following one of these calls, made just before 1.30pm, the helpline contacted East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) over concerns about Nur’s mental state and fears he would harm himself or others.

The ambulance service, considered the appropriate agency to handle the situation, sent an ambulance to Nur’s home, which arrived just before 3 pm, shortly after he returned from the murder.

Danny’s Memories: The Legacy of a Beloved Father and Husband

«The day Gurvinder was murdered, our lives not only changed, but shattered. Our home, once filled with laughter, warmth and his joyful presence, is now stifled by a silence so loud it hurts,» Danny’s family stated in Court.

They described Danny as a «devoted husband, a loving father, a dear brother and a loyal friend», but above all, «just a good man.» «Every morning, we wake up with a glimmer of hope, waiting to hear his footsteps on the stairs, ready to work, ready to have breakfast and chat. But there is only silence,» they added.

Detective Inspector Tony Owen said Danny was everything to his family and friends, and it is impossible for them to understand that his life has ended so suddenly and brutally. He confirmed that Danny did not know Nurand that he was simply doing his activities when he was attacked.

Detective Owen also thanked the family for the bravery and dignity shown, and expressed hope that «knowing that Nur is now serving a long prison sentence will allow them some form of closure as they continue to navigate their grief.» Additionally, he thanked everyone who was at the bench and tried to help Danny, and the community at large, for their support in bringing Nur to justice and taking a «dangerous criminal off the streets.»
