The Public Ministry of Defense of the Province of Jujuy informs that registration is open for the National Meeting of Public Defense, which will be held on November 6 and 7 in San Salvador de Jujuy under the motto “New challenges for public defense.” It is a federal space for exchange and debate on the main current problems and challenges of public defense in Argentina.
The opening ceremony will be on Thursday, November 6 at 9 a.m. in the Historic Town Hall and will be attended by national and provincial authorities, including the governor of the province, CPN Carlos Sadir; the General Defender of the Nation, Dr. Stella Maris Martínez; the General Defender of Jujuy, Dr. María Gabriela Burgos and her deputy, Dr. Guido Matías Luna; together with representatives of the judicial, academic and social spheres.
The meeting is aimed not only at public defenders from across the country, but also at justice operators, lawyers from the local forum, students and representatives of institutions interested in participating in this instance of training and debate. For two days, conferences and panels will be held that will address the main thematic axes linked to the new challenges facing public defense. Among them, the rules of evidence and emerging conflicts in civil litigation stand out; technological advances and their impact on effective technical defense; the problems linked to childhood and adolescence under protection; recent regulatory and legislative changes in criminal and civil matters; the trial by jury and the transformations in judicial processes; mental health as a transversal issue in the civil and criminal sphere; and the importance of organizational well-being to strengthen the daily work of public defenders’ offices.
The National Meeting of Public Defense is organized jointly by the Public Ministry of Defense of Jujuy and the Federal Council of Defenders and General Advisors of the Argentine Republic. It has the support of the Public Ministry of Defense of the Nation, the Federal Investment Council, the Government of the Province of Jujuy, the Association of Magistrates and Officials of the National Justice and the Municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy.
It seeks to strengthen federal coordination, update professional practices and promote the exchange of knowledge to improve the quality of service provided by public defenders’ offices in Argentina.
