At the initiative of Eduardo Dosisto, a personal friend of the artist and honorary president of Friends of Corrientes Street, the emblematic image of Tita Merello, which had adorned the avenue for almost 30 years, was replaced and renovated, to now shine in all its splendor.
Corrientes Avenue, the cultural heart of Buenos Aires, paid tribute to one of its most emblematic figures: Tita Merello. Almost three decades after the installation at Corrientes 915, the artist’s image was replaced by a new one, restored and renewed, thanks to the initiative of Eduardo Dosisto.
The image had suffered the wear and tear of time and inclement weather, losing its brightness and visibility. With the commitment to preserve the memory of the artist and her legacy in the city, Dosisto proposed her replacement.
The new image, which maintains the essence of the original, was inaugurated in October 2025, coinciding with the 121st anniversary of Tita Merello’s birth, on October 11.
Tita Merello, born in 1904, was one of the great exponents of tango and Argentine cinema. His career spanned more than six decades, during which he performed in more than 20 films and recorded numerous albums, leaving an indelible mark on national culture.

Corrientes Avenue, known as “the street of theaters”, has witnessed countless historical moments of Argentine culture. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been the scene of theatrical, film and musical premieres that have marked the cultural identity of the country. The presence of figures like Tita Merello in this Buenos Aires artery has contributed to consolidating its status as a cultural epicenter.
The sign placed on the building at Av. Corrientes 915 contributes to the fact that Tita Merello’s memory remains alive in the heart of Buenos Aires, illuminating every night the avenue that saw her shine.
