He Kilauea volcanoone of the most active and youngest in Hawaii, erupted again this Saturday for the thirty-seventh time since last December. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the episode lasted more than twelve hours and issued an orange alert.
The geological phenomenon began on Saturday around 9:30 a.m. local time (4:30 p.m. in Argentina) from the south vent, and included the lava eruption that began after 1:30 p.m. local time and continued intermittently throughout the day and night. Magma flows covered more than 75% of the crater floor.
He Nilailauelocated in the American archipelago of the Hawaii Islandses one of the six active volcanoes in the areaalong with the Long Mountainthe largest in the world.
From the USGS they indicated that intermittent overflows occurred alternating between the north and south vents in irregular cycles throughout the afternoon and evening of Saturday and that the glow and precursor overflows of the vents would indicate that there is a possibility of new episodes.

Orange alert and possible health risks
The government agency also reported that these types of geological events occur approximately once a week since the eruption of December 23, 2024.
Each of the previous episodes had lasted «from a few hours to more than a week» and were accompanied by a strong deflation of the summit regionas they stated.
Due to this Saturday’s eruption, the USGS issued a orange level alert which will last at least until November 26. Furthermore, it was warned about possible health risks associated with sulfur dioxide emissions.
The dangerous precedent of 2018
Kilauea, which is located within a closed area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on the big island of the Pacific archipelago, had its most destructive phase during 2018in which destroyed about 700 homes y forced the displacement of thousands of peoplein a period of just four months.

In recent times, the volcano had already warned of geological activities. In 2024 it had had a brief eruption during the month of September, although it did not activate any type of alert since it was only a part and there was no danger to homes or infrastructure.
In December of the same year a significant eruption began with lava fountains that rose to almost 80 meters high and activated alerts in the area. Since then, according to the USGS, there have been at least 36 other episodes.
