The officer, identified as Rodrigo Gómez, was a member of the Horse Grenadier Regiment. Federal judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado intervenes in the case that, unofficially, investigates the hypothesis of suicide after the discovery of a letter.
A deeply shocking event occurred during the early hours of the morning in the Quinta de Olivosthe presidential residence. A member of the military personnel who was fulfilling security functions was found dead inside the property.
The deceased soldier was identified as the soldier Rodrigo Gomezof 21 years of age. Gómez belonged to the Chacabuco Squadron of the General San Martín Horse Grenadier Regimenta unit in charge of presidential security at the site.
The Circumstances of the Finding and the Main Hypothesis
As confirmed by sources close to the investigation, Gómez’s body was found in the early morning hours in one of the internal security posts of the Fifth. It was found that the death was caused by a long gun shot (presumably a FAL, his service weapon).
Although the National Government, through an official statement, assured that «all hypotheses remain under analysis«Judicial sources indicated that the strongest line of investigation points to a suicide.
Letter and Debts: The Key Element
This hypothesis is reinforced by a key element found next to the body: a letter. According to information from the investigation, the text, presumably written by the young soldier and addressed to his comrades and family, made reference to the fact that owed a large sum of money.
The federal judge in charge of the intervening Federal Court, Sandra Arroyo Salgadowas present at the Presidential Residence to supervise the start of the tests. By their disposition, the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), including the Homicide Division, and other federal forces intervened at the scene, with the aim of carrying out the required criminalistic investigations and reconstructing the exact circumstances of the incident.
It is expected that the autopsy and forensic reports provide official confirmation of the cause of death. The authorities have stressed that any confirmed information will be communicated exclusively by the competent judicial authority.
