Two victims were killed and three others were critically injured from an apparently targeted shooting at an ice skating rink in Rhode Island on Monday, authorities said.

The gunshots rang out around 2:30 p.m. at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, about 5 miles outside of Providence, according to Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves.

The suspect, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene, was identified as Robert Dorgan, 56. Officials said the suspect also used the name Roberta Esposito.

Besides the two victims killed, three people who were shot and injured were taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. They remain in critical condition as of Monday night.

The shooting appears to be a targeted and «family-related,» the chief said, describing it as possibly a family dispute. Goncalves said that a family friend was also involved in the dispute.

The chief added that a Good Samaritan stepped in and intervened, trying to subdue the suspect, which «kept the incident from getting possibly worse.»
