Jorge Rubio Winery celebrates Malbec Day with its most emblematic wine

Privado Reserva, a Malbec that was born in the heart of the South Oasis of Mendoza, conquered the Argentine table and crossed borders to reach more than 12 countries.

There are wines that accompany an era. And there are wines that define it. The Privado Reserva Malbec from Bodega Jorge Rubio belongs to that second category: with an uninterrupted history that made it a benchmark in its segment, it has earned its own place on the tables of Argentines and in the glasses of those around the world who discover the south of Mendoza through its aromas and character.

Malbec Day is celebrated every April 17 and we Argentines celebrate it as our own. This year, Bodega Jorge Rubio celebrates it as it deserves, with the wine that, with more than 20 years on the market, became a classic. El Privado Reserva is part of the history of the winery and of those who choose it harvest after harvest.

A wine that always knew who it was

From its first harvest, Privado Reserva Malbec was born with a clear vocation, to be a signature, honest wine that spoke of the place where it was made. Made with grapes from the winery’s own vineyards in the South Oasis of Mendoza, that fertile strip that extends between General Alvear and San Rafael, watered by the Atuel River and shaped by a high continental climate, the wine rests for 12 months in American and French barrels before reaching the bottle. A process that provides complexity and character without overshadowing the genuine expression of a region that for decades was the great unknown of Argentine viticulture.

The leather label that became a symbol

If there is an element that distinguishes the Privado Reserva in any wine cellar, gondola or table, it is its label. Made of leather, over the years it became a symbol of identity for the winery and one of the most recognized labels in the segment. It wasn’t a marketing coup. It was a decision that sought to materialize in the packaging the same authenticity that is inside the bottle. Unique and elegant at the same time, the leather label of the Privado Reserva is today an icon that transcends wine and speaks of a way of understanding the craft.

From the Argentine table to the most demanding markets in the world

The Privado Reserva Malbec accompanied Sunday lunches, New Year’s Eve toasts, first dates and family celebrations. It has established itself on the restaurant menu, in the well-chosen corporate gift and in the glass of those looking for a wine with history without sacrificing accessibility. Being in all those moments without losing his character or his coherence is perhaps his quietest and most significant achievement.

But the Private Reserve did not stay in Argentina. As time went by, it crossed the ocean and found its place in markets as diverse as they were demanding. Denmark, the United States, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Belgium and Germany are today common destinations for a wine that was born in the south of Mendoza and learned to speak all languages. More than 12 countries guarantee that the South Oasis has something to say to the world, and the world is increasingly listening.

“We continue making the same wine that we always wanted to make”

Jorge Alberto Rubio, winemaker with more than 40 years of experience and founder of the winery, thus summarizes the philosophy behind Privado Reserva. A wine without concessions, faithful to its origin, which over time found its own audience without the need to reinvent itself.

That long, patient and built path harvest by harvest is what the winery celebrates this Malbec Day.
