How to detect a liar in a few minutes, according to an expert in human behavior

Who hasn’t ever dreamed of having a superpower to detect lies? Something like an invisible radar that activates in the middle of a conversation in which the person seems to make up an excuse, in a dubious promise, or in a story that doesn’t quite close.

In this context, the science of behavior start offering some concrete clues. A specialist in the area recently revealed a trick to Discover a liar in a matter of seconds.

The trick that puts liars in check

Expert Juan Manuel Pincho, former FBI negotiator, assures that there is a technique to detect when a person is lying: just Ask him to retell the story from the end to the beginning.

This strategy increases the cognitive effort so much that, if the story is invented, it is practically impossible to maintain coherence and non-verbal language under control.

«The cognitive effort is incredibly greater»says Pincho. «You start to make mistakes, but also, at the level of non-verbal behavior there will be indicators of stress, tension,» he details about the signs that could indicate that the story is a fallacy. This would reveal that the Brain works harder when you lie than when you tell the truth.

Given these indications, Pincho assures in the interview with the Control Podcast that lies have the capacity to generate a stress cognitive. The specialist maintains that if the story is true, you have lived it, the extra cognitive effort is minimal.

The expert explains that if the story is true, the person must “continue with the same cadence or the same situation of everything they have been saying at the level of hours, characteristics, description and everything, in the same way.”

When a person relates a true event, his or her brain is primarily engaged in recovery of the memory, so you access stored information about what really happened.

This process is relatively simple and requires minimal cognitive effort, since it involves remembering existing data. However, it is much more difficult for the brain to lie than to tell the truth.
