The Minister of Defense Carlos Presti ordered a march of the Armed Forces from Arana to the Plaza Islas Malvinas memory site. However, the army had to retreat under pressure from the CECIM and the people of La Plata.
On Monday, April 13, the National Executive Branch attempted to commemorate the departure of the soldiers of the 7th Infantry Regiment to the Malvinas Islands, omitting the crimes against humanity that the Argentine army itself committed against those who were (many of them forced) to fight in the war.
Sayings crimes They included physical torture, deprivation of food and water, and interruptions in communications with loved ones. Large human rights organizations denounce these events: one of them is the CECIM (Malvinas Islands Ex-Combatants Center), who fight every day for justice to be done for the crimes committed.
This is why the military march led by Minister Carlos Presti generated widespread rejection, not only within the CECIM, but also in various sectors of the La Plata community that remember with pain the torture, disappearances and murders carried out during the civil-military dictatorship, specifically in the current Plaza Islas Malvinas, today declared a site of memory.
From the CECIM they had sent a formal letter to the Minister, where they declared that they were informing him to »expressly guarantee that no member of the 7th Infantry Regiment contingent will enter the property declared a Site of Memory, as well as to provide all necessary, suitable and sufficient measures to preserve the physical, mental and moral integrity of the people and organizations that will participate in the aforementioned memory act.».
However, the FF. AA. They also tried to carry out the march, although not without reprisals. With phrases like »Outside the square, the people reject them!» y »Let them all go, let not a single one remain!», the CECIM and society in general They prevented the arrival of the army, forcing them to retreat.
In a concrete action, the CECIM and the La Plata community put a stop not only to the advance of the armed forces, but also to the speeches that deny or minimize the state crimes that we Argentines remember with so much pain.
