CALL FOR A FEDERAL MARCH FOR PUBLIC HEALTH

On Wednesday, May 20, a Federal March will be held in protest against the adjustment and defunding of public health.

Doctors, students, social organizations, unions and society in general will mobilize on Wednesday the 20th towards the National Ministry of Health to defend the right to health and to make visible the budget cuts that affect the lives of millions of Argentines.¹

Among the claims are:

• the interruption of programs such as Remedy, which guaranteed free access to essential medicines for millions of people
• difficulties in the distribution of vaccines from the national calendar, with delays and missing in different jurisdictions: between 2025 and 2026, 14 babies died from whooping cough, due to the fall in vaccination
• the abandonment of the policies of mental health In a context where suicide is the second cause of death of young Argentines who are between 10 and 19 years old (UNICEF)

Manuel Fonseca, promoter of the Forum for the Right to Health, declared that “We are seeing how the adjustment is beginning to be felt in each hospital, in each health center and in each patient who cannot access their treatment.”.

At the same time, he stressed that »The situation especially impacts the most vulnerable sectors, which They depend exclusively on the public system to access care, medication and care. We demand the restitution of health programs, the normalization of the provision of medicines and vaccines, and the urgent strengthening of the public health system.”.²

It is worth remembering that Health Minister Mario Lugones faces a political trial due to the tragedy of contaminated fentanyl, which took the lives of more than 100 peopleand also for not appearing to testify regarding the bribery scandal in ANDIS (National Disability Agency), among others.
