The generation that plans everything, but still has doubts about fertility

Studies, career, travel, finances and personal projects are planned years in advance. However, fertility remains one of the areas where significant doubts and uncertainties persist.

A recent study of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) revealed that, among women of the Generation Z between 18 and 27 years oldhe 74% want to have children in the future. But at the same time, the 59% acknowledge feeling uninformed about fertility and the 69% express concern about their future reproductive capacity .

The results reveal a reality that specialists observe with increasing frequency. Although interest in planning for the future is part of the daily life of new generations, information on fertility, reproductive age and reproductive health remains limited.

The missing knowledge: ovarian reserve and reproductive age

The survey also detected specific gaps in knowledge. Although the majority of respondents correctly identified the stage of maximum fertility, many did not know when the natural decline in fertility associated with age begins. They also overestimated the possibilities that assisted reproduction treatments offer to compensate for the passage of time.

“The new generations are much more informed about multiple aspects of their health and their life plans, but fertility is still not part of those early conversations” explains the Dr. Agustín Pasqualini, President of SAMeR .

“Many women begin to look for information when they are already thinking about pregnancy, when the ideal would be to know about these issues several years before to be able to make decisions with greater freedom” he adds.

Planning for the reproductive future: early information, not immediate motherhood

Specialists emphasize that talking about fertility does not necessarily imply talking about immediate motherhood. The goal is for women to have reliable information that allows them to understand how fertility evolves over time and what tools exist to plan their reproductive future.

Concepts like ovarian reserve, reproductive age or fertility preservation They are often unknown to many young women. However, they can provide valuable information for those who wish to postpone motherhood for personal, professional or economic reasons.

«Today we have more diagnostic tools and options to accompany different reproductive projects. However, no technology replaces the value of early information» points out the Dr. Fabián Lorenzo, Vice President of SAMeR .

“Knowing how fertility works and what factors can influence it allows us to reduce uncertainty and make more informed decisions about the future” .

The challenge of educating from an early age

Within the framework of International Fertility Care Monthspecialists highlight the importance of incorporating reproductive health into conversations about prevention and comprehensive care.

The main challenge is to include reproductive health in education from an early age. Just as young people receive information about nutrition, sexual health or contraceptive methods, fertility and reproductive age could be part of the content that allows them to make more informed decisions in the future.

The objective is not to advance motherhood or fatherhood projects, but to provide tools so that each person knows how their fertility works and can plan their reproductive life with greater freedom and less uncertainty.
