Sectors of the opposition are plotting a complex legislative and judicial engineering to reverse the Supreme Court ruling that bans the former president. The debate reorganizes the internal affairs of the PJ and seeks to recover political centrality in the face of the electoral assembly.
The internal party of Peronism, far from falling asleep, has just activated a high-impact plan that promises to shake the national political board at its roots. Different sides of the opposition began to coordinate a legal and parliamentary strategy with a unified objective: to declare the annulment of the conviction against Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, reversing her perpetual disqualification from holding public office and clearing her path for an eventual presidential candidacy in 2027.
The great surprise of this assembly is that the initiative was not born from the hard core of Kirchnerism, but from a key actor of federal Peronism: Miguel Ángel Pichetto. The current national deputy—who was Mauricio Macri’s running mate in 2019—is leading the design of a bill for the National Congress to declare the invalidity of the ruling ratified by the Supreme Court of Justice. According to Pichetto himself, the process remains open and it is feasible to «work to modify the current sentence», forcing the highest court to retract its position through review appeals or resorting to international human rights courts.
The support of the Homeland and the paradox of «anti-Kirchnerism»
The move was immediately celebrated by those close to the former president. Former senator Oscar Parrilli described the Rio Negro’s proposal as «a concrete option» to unblock what Peronism denounces as a process of systematic proscription. «We cannot accept as a reality that the political leader with the greatest voting intention is banned. If we do, we are making a mistake,” Parrilli warned.
For the Instituto Patria, the fact that the proposal arises from a sector that was strongly distanced from Cristina Kirchner in recent years gives it an institutional legitimacy that transcends the logic of the «orga.» From the point of view of Peronism, the parliamentary move seeks to expose the vulnerability of a Judicial Branch that is accused of being co-opted by economic power and Macriism to shape the electoral scenario to its convenience.
Organize internal affairs and confront current management
Beyond the strictly judicial aspect, the move has a strong background of internal regulations for the PJ. Almost a year before the mid-term legislative elections, the discussion about the centrality of Cristina Kirchner forces the different Peronist tribes to align behind a common flag, postponing minor billboard discussions. «The first problem we have is guaranteeing democracy. «Then we will analyze a reconstruction program and then we will choose the candidates, whom we will surely reach through a unified mechanism,» Parrilli rehearsed to tone down the internal rispidities of the force.
Likewise, the reactivation of the figure of the former president functions as a political lightning rod against the national government. Peronists are convinced that both Javier Milei and Mauricio Macri «are afraid» of Cristina electorally in a scenario of direct polarization in 2027, and they trust that the installation of this parliamentary debate will serve to wear down the official narrative, pointing squarely against the recent institutional noises and suspicions of corruption that have plagued the administration in recent weeks.
Although the possibilities of Pichetto’s project gathering the necessary majorities in Congress are complex, the «Operation Return» has already fulfilled its first purpose: to return the centrality to Cristina Kirchner, to reinstate the debate on the lawfare and force the entire political spectrum to recalculate their strategies for the next two years.
