The gesture is more than protocol: local political offices are already asking whether this closeness to national power is the first step in a candidacy against Julio Alak.
The change in the Chief of Staff, with the departure of Manuel Adorni and the arrival of Diego Santilli, had its side from La Plata. Among those invited to the inauguration, this Tuesday at Casa Rosada, was Julieta Quintero Chasman, Buenos Aires representative for the Eighth Section and one of the PRO leaders with the longest experience in the city. It was not a casual presence: Santilli has been, for years, its main political reference.
After the ceremony, Quintero Chasman shared images with the new official and wrote on his networks that Santilli represents «the doing, the results» and that it is «an honor» to be part of that team. The message confirmed what was already taken for granted in La Plata politics: the legislator does not intend to move an inch from the line drawn by her reference, beyond the internal ups and downs of the PRO.
Quintero Chasman’s career is not minor. She arrived with the first group that in 2015 brought Julio Garro to the mayor’s office, she held the Private and Social Development Secretariat of the municipality, she served on the Deliberative Council and was a provincial deputy twice. He also founded the group “La Garra”. Last year, in the alliance between the PRO and La Libertad Avanza, she was the only yellow representative on the libertarian sectional ticket of the Eighth Section and managed to renew her seat for four more years.
This information is not an administrative detail. In a PRO that is still discussing how to stand in front of Milei—with sectors that joined the government and others that prefer to keep their distance—Quintero Chasman already chose sides a long time ago. Is that closeness with Santilli enough to think about a larger scale leap within local politics? The question circulates, although no one around him openly confirms it.
In fact, the profile that the legislator built is deliberately low. He avoids the daily fight with the municipal government and prefers to show himself in management and networks rather than in controversy. It is precisely this caution that fuels the versions: there are those in La Plata politics who are beginning to see it as a possible card from the opposition to challenge Alak for mayor next year.
The national framework adds another reading. Santilli’s inauguration brought together a wide range of the ruling party and its allies – Karina Milei, Santiago Caputo, the Menem cousins, the block head Cristian Ritondo and the heads of the PRO blocks in the Buenos Aires Legislature, Matías Ranzini and Alejandro Rabinovich – and the majority of the governors, with the notable absence of Axel Kicillof. This display of power is also the scenario that Quintero Chasman chose to show himself.
For now the deputy does not confirm or deny anything. But each photo adds up, and in Buenos Aires politics, candidacies begin to be built long before someone announces them.
