«Aurelia writes», the one-woman show that challenges the silence of official history at the Teatro del Pueblo

«Aurelia writes» consolidates its success at the Teatro del Pueblo The powerful one-woman show about Aurelia Vélez Sarsfield, written by Adriana Tursi and directed by Marcelo Velázquez, continues its season with excellent reception from the public in the Almagro theater. Starring the award-winning Carolina Tejeda, the work rescues from historical oblivion a key avant-garde woman in 19th century Argentine politics, transcending the myth of her romance with Sarmiento to challenge our present from a deeply contemporary perspective.

BUENOS AIRES — After its great impact on the Buenos Aires billboard, it continues on stage «Aurelia writes» in it People’s Theater (Lavalle 3636, Almagro), a suggestive scenic proposal that recovers the figure of Aurelia Velez Sarsfieldone of the most brilliant and hidden minds in Argentine politics and laws of the 19th century.

Far from pigeonholing her in the traditional memory of her romance with Domingo Faustino Sarmientothe work of Adriana Tursi decides to break the official story. Through a contemporary look, the one-woman show shows an avant-garde and intellectually active woman who was made invisible by history, transforming her footprints into a mirror that directly challenges our present.

The show has the acting power of Carolina Tejedarecognized with awards such as the ACE, Teatro del Mundo and the Latin ACE Award in New York— and the subtle staging of the director and teacher Marcelo Velazquez (distinguished with the María Guerrero, ACE and UNA awards). Sound design and original music are by Marcelo Pereawhile the scenery and costumes are a creation of Paula Molina.
