For football fans it was a month of strong emotions. Needless to say for the Argentinians. The National Team had reached the World Cup final after overcoming several hard-fought matches and on Sunday they had before them an unbeatable chance to perfectly crown the cycle of Lionel Messi, Scaloni and company.
In this context, the video of an alleged advertisement by a Spanish airline pilot low-cost caused outrage on social media.
In the images you can see a group of expectant passengers and you can hear a voice – supposedly that of the pilot – announcing with great suspense the result of the defining match of the 2026 World Cup between Argentina and Spain.
“It was a very hard-fought match until the end, including extra time…”, begins the driver, and continues: “Both teams have given everything, but the final of a World Cup, unfortunately, can only be won by one…”.
That’s when, as a joke or without much caution, he blurts out: “From here we wanted to congratulate our Argentine compatriots”.

The Argentinians on the plane interpreted that phrase as congratulations for obtaining the fourth star and exploded with joy. There were hugs, cries and screams of excitement.
However, the pilot, who took a while to clarify the ambiguity of his announcement, closed with: “Because Spain has won the World Cup”. There was silence there.
