Spending on electricity, gas, water and transportation increased 4.6% in July and reached its highest level since 2023. Transportation is the most important item in the family budget.
The cost of basket of public services continues to rise and already represents a strong impact for households in The Silver. According to the latest report of the IInterdisciplinary Institute of Political Economy (IIEP-UBA/Conicet)a typical family needed $295.826 during July to meet the expenses of electricity, gas, drinking water and transportation.
The study, prepared on data from the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA)reflects an increase in 4.6% compared to June and a rise of 53% compared to July 2025.
Services already consume 15% of the salary
According to the report, the basket of public services is currently equivalent to 15% of average recorded salaryestimated at $1.924.456 for July, the highest level since 2023.
The work also shows the deterioration of purchasing power: while a year ago an average salary was enough to cover 7.8 baskets of services, today it can only cover 6.5.
Transportation, the highest expense
Among the different items, the transport continues to be the one with the greatest impact on the family budget, with an average monthly cost of $121.023equivalent to 40% of the total from the basket.
Behind were the electricitywith an average expense of $68.210; he gas naturalcon $64.862; and the drinking waterwho demanded $41.724 during July.
Rates and subsidies
The report of IIEP points out that users currently pay, on average, the 54% of the real cost of public services, while the 46% remaining continues to be covered by state subsidies.
Furthermore, he points out that since December 2023 the basket of public services accumulated an increase of 966%far above the 241% registered by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of INDEC in the same period.
By being part of the AMBA, The Silver replicates this rate evolution, in a context in which increases in services continue to gain more and more space within families’ budgets.
