Líder reelegido: Paul Philipp confirmado como presidente del FLF, dos caras nuevas se unen a la junta directiva

Paul Philipp has been re-elected President of the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) at the organisation’s 108th Congress, held in Wincrange.

Philipp, who has headed the FLF since 2004, was the only candidate for the position after Tun Di Bari announced in early September that he would not stand for election.

Di Bari, along with board member Alain Hamer, was not at the congress and sent apologies for his absence on Saturday morning.

Elections were also held for five seats on the FLF’s Board of Directors, with six candidates standing for election. Corrado Fecchi (755 votes) and Fernando Cardoso (707 votes) are joining the board for the first time.

Incumbents Christian Weis (604 votes) and Marco Richard (525 votes) were re-elected, while Nicolas Schockmel returned to the board after a second-round vote, receiving 536 votes in the run-off after an initial 419.

Carine Nardecchia was not re-elected, receiving 350 votes in the first round and 306 in the second.

The FLF reported a profit of €174,722.08 for the last financial year. Around €1.4 million in subsidies were distributed to clubs across the country.

In his address to congress, re-elected President Paul Philipp reflected on the sporting highlights and challenges of the past season.

He noted that due to the early elimination of Luxembourgish clubs from international qualifying rounds, there is a risk that the national league could lose a European qualification spot in the future.

Philipp also raised the issue of dual nationalities, highlighting the case of Brian Madjo, who opted to play for England.

To address this, the FLF is working with its legal advisors to find ways to keep young talents tied to Luxembourg, following the example set by Switzerland.

Michel Knepper, President of the Luxembourg Olympic and Sporting Committee (COSL), emphasised the importance of both reinforcing volunteerism and promoting professionalism within Luxembourgish sport.

Minister for Sport Martine Hansen addressed reforms to the Qualité+ programme, stating that in the future there will be a distinction between Qualité+ and Qualité Pro+.

The Congress also approved a change to competition regulations: starting next season, all senior divisions will allow five substitutions across three substitution windows per match, regardless of division.
