A man surprised a police officer and killed him with an arrow

An agent guarding the State House, headquarters of the Kenyan Presidency, was murdered this Monday in Nairobi by a 56-year-old man armed with a bow and arrowswho shot him and wounded him in the left side of his chest, the Police reported.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS) reported on Tuesday by local media, despite being ordered to surrender, the attacker ran to where agent Ramadhan Mattanka was stationed and he shot an arrow at him.

The aggressor was subdued by colleagues of the wounded police officer, who was transferred to the Kenyatta National Hospital (the country’s main hospital) where he died from his wound, then his body was transferred to the morgue to await the post-mortem examination.

«The National Police Service condemns this heinous act and commends the officers for their quick response, which prevented further damage. An investigation is underway to establish the motive for the attack,» the NPS said in the document.

«We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Officer Ramadhan Mattanka, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. The officer’s closest relatives have been notified, and the Service expresses its solidarity with them at this difficult time,» he added.

The attacker

The assailant, identified as Kithuka Kimunyi, managed to get close to Gate D of the presidential headquarters. pretending to be homeless before attacking the police officer.

The alleged criminal was transferred to jail (AP).

According to local media, security cameras recorded a possible conversation between the victim and the aggressor before the attack.

Gate D is reserved for the entry of presidential staff and authorized visitors, so investigations suggest that the homicide could be linked to a failed deal or to a personal relationship between both.
