Four people, including three public officials, died in a plane crash on Monday in southeastern Colombiawhen the small plane in which they were traveling lost contact a few minutes after takeoff and crashed.
Three of the four deceased occupants were officials of the National Registryin charge of issuing identity documents in Colombia, confirmed that institution in a statement.
«After completing his work during the first day of registration of citizens at voting stationsour officials were heading in a small plane towards Mitú when the accident occurred, in which they unfortunately lost their lives,» said the national registrar, Hernán Penagos, in a statement.
The accident involved the small plane HK 641 of the Nativa Air company, which flew the Yavarate – Papunahua – Bocoa – Mitú route.
The accident occurred when it took off from Bocoa – on the border with Brazil, about 500 km from Bogotá – to make the last stopover of the day.
The victims were identified as Carlos Felipe Ramírez, the pilot; and Gabriel Gómez Sánchez, José Misael Silva Bernal and Nadia Valentina Valencia Yepes, officials from the department of Vaupés.

For her part, the local press reported, the departmental coordinator of Risk Management, Tatiana Morales, preliminarily indicated that there is still no clear information about the causes of the accident.
«At the end of the extraordinary Risk Management Council, we regret to inform citizens that in the department of Vaupés, a single-engine aircraft from the company Nativa Air with the registration number HK641 crashed to the ground minutes after taking off from the non-municipalized area of Bocoa,» Morales reported.

And he added: «Three officials from the National Registry of Civil Status were traveling on board, who were carrying out work related to their position. For now we do not know the causes of the accident and the condition of the occupants. The aeronautical authorities and relief agencies are currently carrying out the corresponding investigations.»
The accident occurred in the middle of the Colombian electoral calendar
According to the Colombian electoral calendar, the March 8, 2026 Congressional elections will be held at the national level; The first presidential round is scheduled for May 31 and the second, if necessary, for June 21.
The Registry Office highlighted the dedication and commitment of its workers who work in remote areas of the country, such as Vaupés, a jungle region without routes and difficult to access, to guarantee the development of the electoral process.
«We thank all the entity’s employees in the national territory for their work and commitment to Colombian democracy, despite the challenges that this entails,» Penagos concluded.
For its part, the Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) reported in a statement that the aircraft lost contact approximately two minutes after takeoff.
«The HK-641 (plane registration number) was located and preliminary information at the accident site indicates that the aircraft is completely incinerated: it is presumed that there are no survivors among the four occupants on board,» Aerocivil said.
