An Argentine musical makes history at the Spanish awards

Come From Awaythe Argentine musical theater production that captivated local audiences for four years, achieved an unprecedented feat by obtaining 12 nominations in the seventeenth edition of the Musical Theater Awards from Spain. The award ceremony will take place on Monday, November 10 in it Calderón Theater in Madridwhere the entire Argentine cast will participate in a gala that will bring together the great stars of the Spanish musical.

The musical, directed by Carla Calabresebecame the production most nominated of this edition and will compete in main categories such as Best Musical, Best Stage Direction y Best Leading Actor and Actress. After a successful seven-month season in the Marquina Theater in Madridthe work demonstrated that Argentine talent transcends borders.

Carla Calabrese vs. Antonio Banderas: duel of directors

One of the highlights of the gala will be the competition in the category of Best Stage Directionwhere Argentina Carla Calabrese will be measured against the Spanish Antonio Banderasnominated for his direction of “Gipsy.” Two other Argentines complete the shortlist: Federico Barrios for “The Pillars of the Earth” and Zenon Recalde for “Murder for Two.”

“Come From Away” is a musical of Canadian origin that was a success in Broadway and the West End londinenseArgentina being one of the countries where it had the greatest impact in recent years. Calabrese’s staging was chosen by Broadway authors and producers to perform the play in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

  • Agustín Pérez Costa – Best Choreography
  • Tadeo Jones – Best Set Design
  • Gonzalo Gonzalez – Best Lighting Design
  • Eugenio Mellano Lanfranco – Best Sound Design

The final farewell in Buenos Aires

While preparing its participation in the Spanish gala, “Come From Away” says goodbye to the Argentine public with two special performances at the Maipo Theater the days Friday 12th and Saturday 13th December.

The performance on Friday the 12th will be a night Q&Awhere the audience will be able to participate in an exchange of questions and answers with the entire cast on stage at the end of the performance. On Saturday the 13th there will be a Meet & Greet in the theater hall, allowing spectators to meet actors and directors of the show.

Tickets for these farewell performances are on sale at the Maipo Theater box office and through Plateanet.
