very Dennison participated in a new edition of The Food Tech Summit & Expo México, the leading event in technological innovation for the food industry, which took place on October 8 and 9 at the Citibanamex Center.
During the meeting, the company had an interactive stand in which it exhibited its most recent developments in self-adhesive materials, smart packaging and RFID technologies applied to the food sector. These innovations seek to optimize the operational efficiency of companies, reduce food waste and contribute to a circular economy.
In addition, Sandra Álvarez, Senior Strategic Marketing & Communications Manager LAand Agustín Stamparin, Regional Innovation Manager LA of Avery Dennison Materials Group, offered the conference entitled “The Role of Packaging in Reducing Food Waste: Sustainability, Innovation and Traceability”.
During the presentation, they highlighted that in Mexico more than 35% of the food produced is lost or wasted, which represents 20.4 million tons per year and an economic impact estimated at 25 billion dollars, equivalent to 2.5% of the national GDP.
The spokespersons highlighted how technology, traceability and collaboration between the different actors in the food ecosystem are essential to reverse this trend. Solutions presented included:
- Resealable labelswhich extend the useful life of products and improve the consumer experience, as in the successful case developed together with Nestlé Colombia.
- RFID technologywhich allows precise and secure traceability from the distribution center to the point of sale, already implemented by international chains such as Chipotle and Kroger.
- IoT applicationsArtificial Intelligence and Blockchain, which facilitate real-time monitoring and transparency throughout the supply chain.
“Smart packaging not only protects the product, they are also strategic allies to reduce waste, increase sustainability and strengthen consumer confidence,” Álvarez highlighted during his presentation.
