CABA under fire: orange alert for extreme heat and temperatures that will touch 40 degrees

By Vive Caba Editorial Staff

The city of Buenos Aires is heading to experience one of the hottest days of this year’s end. In line with what was reported by the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the metropolitan area is under orange alertwhich implies a «moderate to high» effect on health, especially for risk groups.

An open-air oven

The mass of warm air that settled over the center of the country does not let up. For this Monday, maximums are expected to range between 38 and 40 degrees in the Federal Capital. The lack of wind and the humidity typical of our riverside area will increase the thermal sensation, turning the Buenos Aires asphalt into a real challenge for those who must travel through the Microcenter or use public transportation.

The orange alert is not a minor fact: specialists warn that these temperatures can be very dangerousespecially for babies, young children and people over 65 years of age with chronic illnesses.

The affected provinces

Although the epicenter of the heat is strongly felt in the streets of Buenos Aires, the phenomenon extends to a large part of the national territory:

  • Buenos Aires (Province): Much of the suburbs and the northern province.
  • North and Center: Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Córdoba, San Luis, Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja also register alerts of different levels (yellow and orange).

Recommendations for residents of CABA

Given the risk of heat stroke and possible power outages that usually accompany these peaks in electrical consumption, from Live Caba We remember the essential guidelines:

  1. Constant hydration: Drink water even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with excess sugar or alcohol.
  2. Avoid direct sun: Between 10:00 and 16:00, the radiation is extreme.
  3. Light feeding: Prioritize fruits and vegetables.
  4. Responsible use of energy: Keep the air conditioners at 24 degrees to avoid saturating the City’s electrical grid.

When does relief come?

According to the extended forecast, it is expected that towards the end of Tuesday the wind will begin to rotate towards the southern sector, which would bring a slight drop in temperature and the probability of isolated storms that help «clean» the environment. For now, the recommendation is clear: Stay in the shade and take extreme care.
