In the midst of a trip around the Lunathe crew of the NASA Artemis II mission They dedicated some time to their personal history. This is how, after an emotional request, the four ended up hugging with feelings on the surface.
The situation occurred after Jeremy Hansenthe Canadian astronaut, told the mission controllers that they wanted to name two craters on the Moon that until then had no name.
First, they proposed calling “Integrity” to a crater located between the Orientale basin and the Ohm crater, in honor of its Orion capsule. «If one looks at the crater Orientale on the opposite side and then draws a straight line to Ohm on the other side, relatively in the middle there is an unnamed crater, and we would like to suggest that it be called Integrity,» Hansen said.
But the tearjerking moment came shortly after, when Hansen read the second proposal.
«There’s a feature in a really interesting place on the Moon, right on the boundary between the visible side and the far side. In fact, it’s right on the visible side of that boundary, so at certain times during lunar transits around Earth, we’ll be able to see it from our planet,» Hansen began.
He described that space as a “bright spot on the Moon” and then, with the help of the rest of the crew, proposed that it be called Carroll in tribute to the commander’s ex-wife. Reid Wisemandied in 2020.

At the end of the message, all crew members hugged each other as Control confirmed by radio the two newly named lunar craters.
Wiseman speaks to his family
Reid Wiseman also had time to greet his family, who are at the Mission Control Center in Houston.
«We have Reid’s family in the viewing gallery. They can say hello to them whenever they want,» he said. Jenni Gibbonsa Canadian astronaut who communicates with the crew from the center.
«That’s great to hear. Thank you, Jenni, and shout out to Ellie and Katie. «I don’t know who else is in there, but it’s great to know that they’re in Mission Control following us,» Wiseman said, referring to his two daughters. «We’re having a great time up here.and the view of the moon is absolutely incredible.»

Wiseman made a gesture with his hands, forming a heart and pointing to a bracelet on his wrist.
