Alexander Medina’s team visits Independiente Medellín in its debut in Group A, with its sights set on starting with a win.
Students returns to the scene in the Copa Libertadores, its most emblematic competition, and will have a demanding debut this Wednesday against Independiente Medellín as a visitor.
After the defeat against San Lorenzo de Almagro in the Apertura Tournament, the albirrojo team quickly turned the page and focused on its international objective. The team led by Alexander Medina will seek to show character and score their first points in Group A.
With references such as Fernando Muslera, Leandro González Pírez and Guido Carrillo, who also begins his challenge of becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition, Estudiantes will try to become strong in a complex scenario.
The probable Pincha team is the following: Fernando Muslera; Eric Meza, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Tomás Palacios, Gastón Benedetti; Mikel Amondarain, Ezequiel Piovi; Tiago Palacios, Facundo Farías, Edwin Cetré; Guido Carrillo.
The match will be played at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, where the history does not favor the La Plata team.
An elusive stadium and a negative record
It will be the sixth time that Estudiantes will play on that stage in international tournaments. So far, they have not managed to win there: they have accumulated two draws and three defeats, all against Atlético Nacional.
The last precedent in that stadium was not positive either. In 2017, the team fell 4-1 in a performance that still resonates with fans.
The confirmed arbitration shortlist
The main referee of the match will be Alexis Herrera, who will be accompanied by his compatriots in a completely Venezuelan shortlist.
It will be the second time he leads Estudiantes in an official match. The precedent dates back to the 2018 edition of the Libertadores, when Pincha won 3-0 against Real Garcilaso in La Plata.
With history, pressure and enthusiasm intact, Estudiantes begins a new path in the Cup with the intention of once again being a protagonist on the continental level.
