The American passport has dropped from the list of the 10 most powerful countries in the world for the first time in the 20-year history of this key index.
This decline in the power of the US passport from its top spot in 2014 «indicates a fundamental shift in global mobility and soft power dynamics,» according to Christian Kaelin, president of Henley & Partners and creator of the Passport Index Henleypublished this week.
In the classification, Singapore is in first place (allows entry to 193 countries without a visa), followed by South Korea (190) and Japan (189).

The United States has descended to 12th place (allows entry to 180 countries) and Argentina is in 19th place (169 countries).
They blame him for Donald Trump
«Nations that embrace openness and cooperation are making significant progress, while those clinging to past privileges are being left behind,» Kaelin added.
This decline in the United States comes amid a clampdown on immigration by President Donald Trump’s administration, which led the State Department to announce the start of a review of the documentation of more than 55 million U.S. visa holders to detect potential violations.

The report of Henley cites US administration policy as one of the factors contributing to the decline in the ranking, which relies on data from the International Air Transport Association to examine visa-free travel.
The United States, which dropped to 10th in July after falling to 7th last year, is now tied with Malaysia for 12th place.
