After years of sobriety and neutral capsules, the new generation celebrates color, mixing and freedom of style. Elegance is no longer in combining, but in expressing yourself.
For a long time, less was more. Neutrals, simple lines and timeless basics marked the pulse of good taste. Minimalism was a trend: wardrobe capsules, Marie Kondo, “quiet luxury” and noble materials dominated the scene. In Argentina, designers opted for this refined aesthetic as a response to fast fashion and excessive consumption. But, like everything in fashion, the pendulum swung again. After so much order, it was time to play.
After the pandemic and confinement, the desire for movement, joy and authenticity was felt. This is how the new phenomenon was born: mix & match.
The idea is simple but powerful: mix without fear. Prints, textures, styles and eras coexist naturally in the same look. Vintage meets new, sporty meets elegant, and artisanal meets technological.
This energy can be seen on social networks and Argentine catwalks: layers, overlays, vibrant colors and combinations that break the rules. In Buenos Aires and Rosario, young brands reinterpret the style with patchwork, contrasts and unexpected materials. It is no longer important to combine: it is important to express who you are.
Minimalism was a search for calm and control in times of excess. Mix & match, on the other hand, celebrates diversity, inclusion and imperfection. The new elegance does not seek uniformity, but emotional authenticity. «Today identity is built with garments that tell different stories. Harmony is not in uniformity, but in the emotional coherence of the look.»
How to achieve a mix & match with style
I chose a common thread. It can be a color, a texture or a silhouette that connects the entire look.
Balance the proportions. A protagonist garment + a neutral base is the winning formula.
Play with the times. A vintage jean with a tech blouse or a classic blazer with sneakers.
Trust your intuition. Style is trained, but it is also felt.
