After going through addiction, bipolar disorder, a psychotic break and a devastating personal crisis, Tomás Roitman created “Thanks for Sharing”, the first Argentine video podcast dedicated to making recovery visible. In just 75 days, the project has already reached almost a million views on social networks and generates a positive impact on many people.
Tomás Roitman (43), audiovisual producer, transformed one of the most extreme and painful stages of his life into an innovative project with social impact. After going through addiction, bipolar disorder, a manic episode, and a deep personal and work crisis, he created the multidimensional project “Thanks for Sharing”, the first Argentine video podcast focused specifically on addiction and recovery, which also contains educational games and emotional connection, training and community.
“My mission is to make the bright side of this disease visible, talk about what is not talked about and raise the voices of anonymous people with powerful stories,” he says. Its history was not linear. He studied at the ORT technical school, took Psychology and Philosophy subjects at the UBA and finally found his way into film and audiovisual production. But behind his professional journey there was a years-long personal battle against addiction and bipolar disorder, experiences that he re-signifies today to empower himself and help others. In 2009, a manic episode led to his first hospitalization.
Since then, 16 years ago, he has not used drugs again. However, the most critical stage of his life did not come with a substance, but, according to his story, with a context of systematic workplace abuse that ended up seriously destabilizing him and generating such great suffering that it brought him to the brink of suicide. In mid-2024, while working as a producer on an audiovisual project, he began to experience a process of workplace harassment that he describes as “systematic and invisible crushing” by the project leader. That experience led to a psychotic break toward the end of that year and a devastating crisis that impacted all areas of his life.
During 2025 he lived in nine different places, distanced himself from almost all his ties, sold all his belongings to survive and accumulated a million-dollar debt with the bank. In this extreme context, he re-emerged like the phoenix and found an unexpected way out: transforming his pain and the experience he lived into a creative, humanitarian and service project. Thanks for sharing: a message that went viral was born “Thanks for Sharing”, a space for real, honest and deep conversations about addiction, mental health and recovery.
Unlike other formats, in this podcast the protagonists are not celebrities, but rather anonymous people with powerful stories that generate identification, relief and hope, as well as specialists who can portray the complete universe of addiction. The impact was immediate. In just 75 days, the project is close to reaching one million views on social networks, creating a growing impact and demonstrating that there is a concrete need to open these conversations with humanity, depth and truth.
In addition to the podcast, the project expands into other initiatives linked to training, emotional connection games and community building. Today, Roitman seeks to become a reference in addiction and recovery.
And its objectives are clear: 1. Reduce stigma: Talk about addiction openly, showing recovery as the bright side that emerges after stopping using. 2. Pass a message: That you can stop using drugs, lose your desire and find a new way of living. 3. Develop a universal 12-step program, free, anonymous and confidential for those seeking to grow as human beings.
In a world that often hides pain, scars and uncomfortable stories, Tomás Roitman decided to embrace his pain and turn his life experience into a platform of service, awareness and hope. “My life today is an example that there is nothing and no one that can destroy you, as long as you count on yourself,” he concludes.
