Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi was helped from the field in tears after having his ankle rolled over by a wild tackle by Bayern Munich‘s Luis Díaz on Monday at the Parc des Princes.
Díaz had scored twice for Bayern in the first half of the Champions League match between the two table-topping sides before making a rash challenge from behind on Hakimi that earned the Bayern winger a straight red card after a VAR review.
Bayern went on to win the game 2-1 to move into first in the Champions League league phase table.
Earlier in the first half, Ousmane Dembélé was withdrawn from the match after scoring what looked to be the game’s opening goal. As the goal was checked by the VAR, the France international looked to be in discomfort.
The goal was ruled out for offside, preserving Bayern’s then 1-0 lead, as Dembélé made way for Lee Kang-in before heading straight down the tunnel to the dressing room.
When asked about the two players after the game, PSG manager Luis Enrique said: «I don’t know, we have to wait for the tests tomorrow. And the injuries of the two players. Hakimi, it’s football, a contact sport, it’s a shame.»
Díaz scored a second goal for Bayern to put the visitors up 2-0 before his booking at the end of the half. Morocco defender Hakimi left the field in tears and was unable to put pressure on his left leg after Díaz rolled his ankle over with a two-legged tackle.
«I hope Hakimi recovers quickly,» Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said after the game. «We know what it’s like to have an injured player with [Jamal] Musiala [injured against PSG in the Club World Cup]. It can happen in matches with such intensity.»
Dembélé had been out for six weeks from early September until making his return on Oct. 20 with a hamstring injury he picked up while playing for France in a 2-0 win against Ukraine in World Cup qualifying.
It was not immediately certain whether Dembélé was injured again on Tuesday.
Coach Luis Enrique gave assurances on the eve of the game that Dembélé was fit to play, while PSG were also without forward Désiré Doué with a right thigh injury.
