He thought he was a «monster» until he discovered he had a strange condition: «Talking about it was what helped me»

For years, Molly Lambert He thought there was something wrong with her. As a child, she feared being kidnapped or even killed. His thoughts often generated anxiety y panic attacks.

At the age of 15, his situation worsened when he began to have intrusive sexual and aggressive thoughts with boys and girls. «The thoughts took a turn that was not what I experienced before,» he said in dialogue with Southwest News Service.

«I was starting to think I was a pedophile.»that she was a rapist, that she was a predator, that she could harm another person,» added Molly, who is now 22 years old and lives in Manchester, England, and spoke for the first time about the strange condition she suffers from.

«These obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily activities and cause a lot of discomfort,» explains the medical organization on its website. «In the end, you feel the need to perform compulsive acts to relieve your stress. Even if you try to ignore or get rid of annoying thoughts or impulses, they keep coming back. This leads you to act ritually,» he adds.

In Molly’s case, her obsessions went a step further by having «distressing intrusive thoughts about being sexually attracted to children and sexually violating«, as explained by National Center for Biotechnology Information.

According to research, people who suffer from pedophilia-themed OCD, if they express these concerns, are at risk of being misdiagnosed by uninformed medical professionals on the subject.

«This misdiagnosis and subsequent inappropriate interventions may contribute to a increased fear, anxiety and, in many cases, depression in affected patients. Therefore, it is imperative that mental health professionals first fully understand this common manifestation of OCD,» they point out.

The unexpected discovery on social networks

At the age of 19, while browsing the social network TikTok, he came across a video that talked about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) with pedophilia themes. At that moment she realized that she was not alone.

«I thought that the TOC — like many people — was cleaning and organizing. «That may be part of it, but that’s one of the other things you can experience,» he explained.

However, for Molly, knowing more about her condition did not help calm her anxiety and control her thoughts. For this reason. He decided to keep it a secret for a long time. «You think you are a monster that doesn’t deserve to exist. Shame is in how you see yourself. Even years later, that feeling can last,» he said.

Molly went to therapy to deal with her anxiety and panic attacks, but out of shame, she only talked about «dark thoughts». When her situation worsened, she decided to explain to her therapist the characteristics of her intrusive thoughts, until in 2025 she was formally diagnosed with OCD.

«It’s not being a pedophile — it’s that these thoughts exist and your brain holds on to them. OCD is a matter of uncertainty. It tells you ‘what if…?’ and you can’t prove him wrong,» he explained.

Although now Molly receives clinical helpstill finds it difficult to treat his anxiety and panic attacks. In addition, he regrets not having sought help sooner, since an early diagnosis would have «saved him years of suffering.»

«Talking about it was what helped me.. For years I avoided talking about it, but once I did, I felt the air clear,» she said. She added that sharing her experience on social media had a positive and encouraging result for other people who experience the same thing as her.

«People say that he was crying, that he felt that way for years and never told anyone. Parents got in touch saying they have obsessions with harming their children. «Some people said they ended up in psychiatric units or tried to kill themselves,» he said.

In this sense, he hopes that sharing his experience will contribute to remove the stigma and make people who have these thoughts understand that «they are not bad.»

«People don’t talk about it, and that makes it worse. You have to label it so it loses energy. It gives people permission to step back and realize it’s their brain; Not that they are a monster«he remarked.
