Héctor Díaz remembered Luis Brandoni: “He died with his boots on, doing theater”

Héctor Díaz is going through a work situation of great intensity and diversity. Currently, he shines as an actor in the successful comedy “The function that goes wrong” at the Multitheater. The play is heading to a season in Mar del Plata after a year of sustained success.

In parallel, he displays his role as director. Take the national tour of “Widows and daughters” and the revival of the one-man show “Now Later” starring Fede Ottone at Espacio Callejón.

Héctor Díaz remembered Luis Brandoni:

It was in this framework of activity that Díaz took time to remember. In an interview of Karim Gonzalez in “Alone in the Bars” spoke about his bond with Louis Brandon. He worked with him for almost two years on the work “Who is who” .

A transcendental link

For Díaz, working with figures of the stature of “Beto” was an experience that marked his career. “They became sort of like parents in a sense.” he expressed.

«When he told me anecdotes about the history of the theater, his life and the country, it was always very interesting to listen to him. There was a lot of learning on my part» he added.

The energy that the theater gave him back

Díaz detailed how, at the beginning of the year, Brandoni showed signs of physical fatigue. However, theater continued to be his vital driving force.

“Luis had been showing some signs of a certain energy and was a little more down” he recalled. “Although he could do shows perfectly, he did six shows a week because the theater revitalized him” .

“It was incredible how the stage gave him the energy he needed” he stated.

This vitality manifested itself in an almost magical way every night. According to Díaz, Brandoni “I arrived very early at the theater” . “He was waiting for that time of day to arrive to be in the place where he really felt full and happy” .

“He was very connected to the idea of continuing acting because theater was his first love and his main matrix” he added.

The transformation when the curtain opens

The transformation that occurred when the curtain opened was, for his colleagues, a constant lesson in craftsmanship.

“It was incredible because suddenly he transformed into someone who scored goals, one goal after another” Diaz described. “You said: ‘How can it be if half an hour ago he was sitting in his dressing room very small?’” .

“He appeared and opened like a peacock, with an energy worth seeing to learn and be infected with” complete.

Technical support and public respect

Even in the most fragile moments, Brandoni’s skill and the support of his team were key. A hearing aid was used or «cockroach» to help with the text. In this way, the public never noticed their difficulties.

He died with his boots on

Finally, Díaz reflected on the actor’s departure. He stressed that his wish to remain active until the end was fulfilled.

“He died with his boots on, which was how he wanted, doing theater” he concluded.
