Horcas unleashed a night of metal and emotion in La Plata

Horcas burst onto the scene at 10 o’clock with devastating force. After a brief introduction with “En la Ciudad del Gran Río”, by Riff, the band led by Walter Meza opened the show with “Golpe a Golpe”, one of the classics from “Oíd Mortales el Grito Sagrado”, an album released in 1992.

«We have been coming to La Plata since we were little and that loyalty continues to this day,» Meza said in reference to the hundreds of followers that the band has had in the city since the early nineties. The link with the Buenos Aires capital also extends to the Opera Theater, one of the venues chosen by the group every time it visits the city.

The audience showed a wide generational diversity. Among the attendees were young people in their early 20s to followers over 60, without overlooking the presence of children between 10 and 12 years old and numerous teenagers who attended accompanied by their families.

Known for his deep commitment to social reality and his strong sense of belonging to the country, Meza also found space for reflection. In that sense, he referred to the economic situation that Argentina is going through. ““The only thing we ask for is health, work and education for our people.”he expressed.

The singer also made reference to the case of Agostina Vega, the 14-year-old teenager found dead in a field in Córdoba two days ago. “What is happening to us as a society, that we are capable of killing our own children?«, he reflected before performing «Family.»

The classics continued playing to the rhythm of an audience that accompanied each song with an increasingly intense pogo. “Infierno”, “In the Cage”, “Indifference” and “Without Exit”, among others, fueled a climate that was as powerful as it was emotional.

Then it was the turn of the covers, by guitarists Sebastián Coria and Lucas Bravo. “Symphony of Destruction”, by Megadeth, along with “Creeping Death” and “Seek and Destroy”, by Metallica, revealed the influences that marked the band from its beginnings.

Later it was time for tributes. While the emblematic “Vence” sounded and a thick curtain of smoke enveloped the stage, images of deceased fundamental figures of national rock and metal began to be projected on the background screen, among them Ricardo Iorio, Osvaldo Civile—founder of Horcas—, Guillermo Sánchez, of Rata Blanca, Claudio “Pato” Larralde, of Los Antiguos, Norberto “Pappo” Napolitano and Willy Quiroga, of Vox Dei.

One of the most relaxed moments of the night came during the performance of “Esperanza.” There, Meza invited three girls to go up on stage to sing with him while they walked along the stage boards doing the traditional “little train”, a common postcard in the band’s shows when they perform that song.

This is the next generation of heavy metal«said the singer. And, between laughter and applause, he added:»The only thing missing is for them to ask me to dress up as Barney.”.

At the end, Meza thanked the audience for their presence and called on them to continue supporting the genre and the new bands that seek to make their way on the scene.

“¡Hold on to the national metal, damn it!«, he shouted before giving way to «Solución Suicida» and «Destrucción», the historic V8 classic that served as the perfect closing for a night full of power, emotion, lack of control and passion for metal.
