Juan Pedro Franco, the Mexican considered the most obese man in the world, died

Juan Pedro Francothe Mexican who held the title of the most obese man in the world, died this Monday at 41 years. The incident occurred in his home state of Aguascalientes due to a severe kidney infection, as reported EFE Agency.

In 2017, Franco obtained the Guinness record after having registered a weight of almost 600 kilos. Was José Antonio Castanedathe doctor in charge of his treatment, who reported the news through a statement.

«In recent days, his state of health was compromised due to a kidney infection that evolved with complications systemic diseases, which led to his death while he was hospitalized,» said the specialist.

Franco’s clinical process formally began seven years ago. At that time, the 32-year-old had a weight close to 595 kilos when he sought the help of Dr. Castañeda.

Castañeda initially prescribed a Mediterranean diet with an emphasis on vegetables and fruits. This dietary regimen preceded the surgical interventions necessary to stabilize his case.

Franco underwent a gastric sleeve surgery and a subsequent gastric bypass. Thanks to these procedures, he achieved a 49 percent reduction in his initial body mass.

The man overcame infection with Covid-19 during 2020. This event represented a high danger due to his medical history, but Franco managed to survive the disease.

The recovery from the virus showed the benefits of his previous physical improvements. Franco successfully completed his total bariatric process, which marked a milestone in his personal evolution.

Castañeda recalled that Juan Pedro’s case was a “complex and challenging” medical process, which helped make obesity visible as a disease “that requires empathy, science and coordinated workbeyond the stigma that still surrounds it.”

The doctor sent his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Furthermore, he recognized the “perseverance, resilience and honesty to share your lifewhich generated empathy in many people and motivated others to face their own health challenges.”
