June arrives with increases in transportation, health and services

The beginning of June brings new increases in different key areas of the daily economy. There will be increases in rates for services, public transportation, prepaid medicine, rents and fuel, among other sectors.

What increases come into force in June

With the beginning of Junedifferent sectors will apply new increases that will directly impact consumers’ pockets. The increases will cover public services, transportation, prepaid medicine fees, rents and fuel.

The rate updates are part of the price recomposition and monthly adjustment schemes that have been applied since the beginning of the year. In several cases, increases are linked to automatic update formulas based on inflation or operating costs.

According to the information released, the increases will begin to be reflected in invoices, tickets and fees during the first weeks of the month.

Transport: new increases in buses and trains

One of the main adjustments will come in the public transportation of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). From June, bus and national train fares will register new increases.

In the case of national bus lines that circulate in the AMBA, the minimum ticket will go from $397,11 a $424,91which represents an increase in 4,8%.

For their part, metropolitan trains will also undergo fare updates. The minimum card ticket UP registered will amount to $280while those who do not have the nominalized card will have to pay higher rates.

At the same time, in the province of Buenos Aires and in the Autonomous City of Buenos Airesbus lines under local jurisdiction will also have increases in line with the monthly update mechanisms defined by the authorities.

Utilities and fuels

During June, new adjustments will also be applied to public services. Electricity, gas and water rates will once again register increases as part of the updating processes promoted by the national government.

Although the final percentages may vary depending on the region and the level of consumption, the increases will impact the bills of residential and commercial users during the coming weeks.

In parallel, oil companies are preparing new increases in fuel prices. The adjustment will be related to the update of taxes and variations in the costs of the sector.

The official expectation is that the increases will be moderate to avoid a greater impact on the month’s inflation rates.

Prepaid medicine and rentals

Another sector that will apply increases in June will be prepaid medicine. Different companies have already reported updates on monthly installments, with increases that will be between 2.5% and 2.8%depending on each firm and contracted plan.

In recent days, users began to receive official notifications with the new values that will apply starting this month.

In the case of rentals, those who have contracts governed by the old Rental Law will face an annual update of the 80,65%according to the official index used to calculate the increases.

The increase will especially impact contracts signed under the scheme prior to the modifications introduced by the current regulatory framework.

Economic context and pressure on consumption

The June increases occur in a context marked by the slowdown in monthly inflation, although with persistence of adjustments in regulated sectors and essential services.

The national government maintains the policy of tariff updating as part of the process of reducing subsidies and reorganizing relative prices in the economy.

At the same time, increases in transportation, health, rents and fuel continue to generate pressure on the incomes of workers, retirees and the middle sectors, especially on expenses considered fixed within the family structure.

What to expect in the coming weeks

The new rate tables and updates will begin to be applied in a phased manner throughout June and will have a direct impact on the general price index.

In parallel, the behavior of inflation and official decisions on rates and fuels will continue to be determining factors for the evolution of costs during the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, households and companies will have to face a new month with adjustments in multiple essential areas of the daily economy.
