From Buenos Aires to New York: volume, identity and usable art without limits. Who is Marcia Galán? The young Argentine designer who surprises with her designs.
At the age of 18 he left Buenos Aires to settle in New York and train at Parsons School of Design. Today, Marcia La Vecchia Galán is positioned as one of the young Argentine designers with the greatest international projection, developing an aesthetic where volume, texture and structure redefine the relationship between body and clothing.
His journey was neither linear nor comfortable. «Being a foreigner in the United States taught me to work even harder to achieve my goals. Not having that comfort of being in your country forces you to build your path from scratch,» she says. That migrant experience became a creative engine. «New York is a constant source of inspiration and helped me discover who I am as an artist. Art and design are a unique way to express yourself without limits.»
From the familiar Singer machine to Oscar de la Renta
Fashion is part of your personal history. Since I was a child I drew dresses and dreamed of designing. His grandfather, an Italian immigrant tailor in Argentina, was his first reference. “His talent and the love he dedicated to each garment was beautiful,” she recalls. At the age of 12 she began taking sewing classes with her mother and made her first dress with a family Singer machine used for generations.
During the pandemic, she began designing handbags with her father as a hobby. That impulse led her to put together her portfolio and appear at Parsons. After moving to New York, he began his first work experiences in the industry, including the Oscar de la Renta house, consolidating his training in one of the most competitive settings in the world.
Galán’s work does not start from the trend but from the concept. Each garment functions as a sculptural piece: three-dimensional surfaces, amplified silhouettes, architectural collars and materials that dialogue with movement and emotion.
“I usually find my creative voice when I experiment with textiles, that’s when everything makes sense,” she explains. Her process is experimental and deeply artisanal: she develops her own fabrics using techniques such as felting, embroidery, sublimation or laser cutting. «I don’t buy fabric, I develop it. I’m passionate about making my work even more personal, with unique materials.»
Rigid structures support exaggerated and voluminous shapes. «I love playing with the silhouette of the body and creating something unconventional. I’m not passionate about minimalism; the bigger the better.» The result is an almost ritualistic process where each surface is built from scratch.

In their designs, Argentine cultural heritage and New York experimental energy coexist. Latin drama merges with an eclectic and limitless look.
«I am interested in my work generating impact and intrigue, having a surprise factor. If my clothes had personality, they would be challenging and provocative, in an unexpected way.» Color occupies a central role in that visual language. “I use red a lot because it represents the passion with which I live the creative process.”
Galán defines his proposal as wearable art. “My intention is not necessarily to look for the commercial, but rather a means of expression where there are no limits.” His pieces do not accompany the body: they expand it, transform it and turn it into a scene.
Among her references are Alexander McQueen, Iris Van Herpen and Mugler, designers who, like her, understand fashion as an artistic territory.
She dreams of launching her own brand focused on innovative and sustainable textiles. “The industry generates a lot of waste and I am interested in leading in a conscious way.” He also aspires to see his designs at major events and celebrities, consolidating an identity that does not seek to go unnoticed.
Marcia La Vecchia Galán represents a new generation of Argentine designers who are building their careers abroad with their own voice. A proposal where art and fashion intersect to install a powerful image in the emerging international design panorama.
