Milei in New York: The end of neutrality and the dangerous alignment in the conflict with Iran

By Vive Caba Editorial Staff

On a new stop on his tour of the United States, Javier Milei once again shook the board of Argentine foreign policy. During a dissertation at Yeshiva University in New York, the president not only ratified his unconditional alignment with Washington and Tel Aviv, but also went a step further by formally declaring Iran an «enemy» of the Nation, within the framework of the escalation of war in the Middle East.

«They are our enemies»

Using the argument of the attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA in the 90s, Milei justified the abandonment of the historical position of neutrality that Argentina has maintained in the face of international armed conflicts. «I don’t like Iran because they have planted two bombs in us… therefore, they are our enemies,» he declared before an audience that applauded him.

However, the President’s speech went beyond historical memory. Milei directly linked national security to his “strategic alliance” with Donald Trump – whom he fervently praised – and with Israel, positioning Argentina as an active actor in a war of powers that, until recently, the country watched from the diplomatic periphery.

The geopolitics of «reordering»

In subsequent interviews, the Head of State defended the thesis that this conflict is not about oil, but about hegemony. According to his vision, the intervention of the powers will «clean up» the global scenario, isolating China and weakening governments in the region such as those of Cuba and Venezuela, whom he accuses of having links to Iranian terrorism.

While the President proclaims that Argentina is «in the right place in history,» local analysts warn of the security risks involved in this direct exposure. The transition from diplomatic condemnation of terrorism to active belligerence in a global conflict marks a point of no return for local foreign policy.

A delegation under the magnifying glass

Beyond the war definitions, the tour was not free of domestic controversy. The «large» delegation that accompanies Milei – which includes ten governors and several ministers – has been left in the eye of the storm due to the presence of relatives who do not carry out official functions.

Requests for reports have already been submitted from the opposition to determine whether the trip of the wives of some officials was financed with public funds, adding an ethical stain to a trip that, due to its political definitions, is already considered one of the most risky of the libertarian administration.
