ORBITH, a leading provider of satellite Internet services, announced the successful implementation of its connectivity infrastructure for the Argentine National Gendarmerie (GNA). The deployment, which included complex logistical operations, such as helicopter transfers in some sections and high mountain roads, today allows border units to have high-speed internet for multiple uses.

The project stood out for its hybrid approach, using multi-orbit technology: the integration of low orbit (LEO) satellites was intended for the force’s internal systems that required low latency, while the GEO geostationary orbit, with unlimited internet, was allocated for administrative and recreational use of personnel, with an excellent cost-benefit ratio.
«This project represented an unprecedented logistical challenge for our technical team. We had to access border crossings, both fixed and seasonal, in minimum time windows and under extreme weather conditions, even arriving via helicopter where roads do not exist,» he highlighted. Pablo Mosiul, CEO of ORBITH.
In the words of Gabriel Cimino, one of ORBITH’s technical specialists who participated in the deployment, «as these are very isolated areas, for a large part of the journey you remain incommunicado, so, without instructions from the local people, access can become complicated. From a technical point of view, the main challenge is the prior planning and logistics of materials, since any shortage is difficult to resolve in remote places. Once on site, satellite technology allows connectivity to be reestablished reliably.»
Regarding the rigor of the environment and the quality of the installation, Rolando Pérez, another of ORBITH’s technical specialists who participated in the project, explained: «The technical challenge was huge due to the ruggedness of the area and the extreme climate, with strong winds and roads that were very difficult to navigate. The posts are practically lost in the immensity of the mountain range and it took us many hours to reach each one. Our main objective was to fix the antennas with such precision that they would be able to withstand the passage of time.»
In addition to operational success, Rolando Perez highlighted the human factor as the true key to work in the field: «Beyond the technical complexity, what really facilitated our task was the affinity and human quality of the gendarmes. Living with them, sharing lunch and daily mates, generated a bond of fundamental trust. They offered themselves completely and actively collaborated with us. That hospitality and the exceptional treatment we received was what turned a logistical challenge into an unforgettable collaborative experience.»
The National Gendarmerie highlighted the qualitative leap of this update, since previously connectivity was limited to 1 Mbps, which restricted the use of basic services and affected operational and administrative efficiency at border posts. Regarding this advance, force technicians pointed out: «Today, the multi-orbit service allows a fluidity that increases productivity in the units; this modernization strengthens the protection of the borders by guaranteeing agile and secure information management in the most remote parts of the country.»
In terms of security, low latency access is vital for radio communications systems that rely on connectivity for operational control. This technology strengthens the resilience of the system and ensures reliable operation in the demanding scenarios faced by the force. At the same time, the GEO solution has transformed daily life in remote positions, since unlimited Internet access positively impacts the morale of personnel stationed far from their homes. “Maintaining fluid contact with their families and accessing recreational content significantly improved their morale, which translates into more efficient performance in tasks,” the institution noted.
Confidence in the service led the National Gendarmerie to continue expanding the network even to units that had originally been left out of the tender. «Currently there are already 58 sites installed, and seeing that the project expanded beyond the original tender is the best indicator of success. We are proud to know that our technology helps the Gendarmerie fulfill its mission, providing redundancy in its critical systems and a window to the world for those who care for our territorial limits,» he said. Pablo Mosiul.
From the institutional perspective of the National Gendarmerie, «this modernization directly strengthens the mission of protecting Argentine borders, by guaranteeing more agile, secure and timely information management. It enhances operational coordination and improves the effectiveness of our actions throughout the national territory.»
«This project demonstrates that satellite connectivity can play a strategic role in critical contexts. For ORBITH, collaborating with the National Gendarmerie in a task linked to sovereignty and border control is a great responsibility and also a confirmation that our technology and our teams are up to the most demanding challenges of the country,» said the CEO of ORBITH.
