In recent days, several news stories have gone viral that claim Russia’s alleged financing of Argentine media outlets, however, the portals that spread them omitted important details.
The news portals Checked y OpenDemocracy They undertook a media campaign, where, as a result of alleged investigations, Open Democracy discovered the alleged financing by the Russian government towards media outlets contrary to the ruling party’s agenda, a discovery that would later be replicated by Chequeado and by multiple media outlets in Argentine territory, including President Javier Milei.
However, it is precisely these two media outlets that, presenting themselves as non-profit and transparent organizations, are financed by groups belonging to concentrated international powers. Furthermore, the »investigation» itself states that it was not possible to verify whether payments have been made and to whom.1.
Wolves in sheep’s clothing
Checked defines himself as »a non-profit, non-partisan organization. We help people make informed decisions by combining fact-finding journalism, education and civic technology to raise the quality of public debate and contribute to strong democracies». But according to the media The cry of the south y Realpolitik (both accused by Chequeado of being part of the media financed by the Kremlin), among their patrons are the British embassy, that of Germany and the Organization of American States (OAS)an organization that operates under the tutelage of United States, the European Union, the Swiss Embassy and the Rockefeller Center.
At the same time, among the main financiers of OpenDemocracy (which claims to be »an independent international media platform that promotes a more open, democratic and equal world») entities with headquarters in Londres y York (Inglaterra),comoJoseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust y Legal Education Foundation.
These organizations – based on the United Kingdom and United States – claim that, with different approaches, they finance projects supposedly linked to democracy, justice and civic participation. Although they are usually grouped under the category of “philanthropic”, These entities fulfill diverse functions within the system of international influence.
In addition to traditional foundations, OpenDemocracy has received contributions from large global philanthropic structures such as the Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation and (again) Rockefeller Brothers Found, actors with strong presence in the promotion of political and social agendas at the international level.

Psychological warfare
According to the scientific magazine Scielo, the psychological warfare (PSYWAR)es »the planned use of propaganda and other psychological actions to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes and behaviors of hostile persons or foreign groups in such a way as to support the achievement of national objectives, propaganda being: any form of communication designed to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes or behavior of any group in order to benefit the sponsor, either directly or indirectly».
This comes up if we ask the following questions: who benefits when Argentine society thinks that any media critical of the management of La Libertad Avanza Could it be a medium financed by Russia? Are there only businesses and «jobs» left or convictions still exist? Will it be a truly intentional accusation to make us suspect Putin or will it be a new smokescreen for distraction?
Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy declared on social networks that »On June 23, 2025, the Embassy already issued a detailed comment on this issue. In essence, we have nothing to add today. We regret that ideological positions are once again imposing themselves on common senseand that the desire to cloud bilateral relations prevails over the will to develop them».
