The legendary Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez He returned to Argentina after seven years to offer a recital full of emotion, poetry and political content at the Movistar Arena. Although the musician apologized for being visibly affected by his voice, this did not prevent the concert from being a timeless celebration of his work. The show, part of his South American tour, served to present his latest album, I wanted to knowand take an extensive tour of its rich musical history. From the first song, “Ala de Hummingbird,” the troubadour spread a “magical spell” that felt like a respite from the current social and political context.
A message that transcends generations
One of the most notable features of the night was the confluence of generations in the audience: parents with children, and grandparents with grandchildren, all united by songs that, such as “I Dream of Snakes,” “Little Serenade of the Day,” and “I Will Love You,” overcome the passage of time.
Silvio’s music resonated in the key of the time, offering a poetic that dialogues with values such as solidarity, hope and tenderness against contemporary individualism. In a moment of great emotion, the Cuban expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip. In addition, he dedicated the song «Más porvenir» to Pepe Mujicathe former Uruguayan president, whom he admires for his refusal to give in to hate.
Tribute to Cuban trova and poetry
Silvio Rodríguez dedicated a mini set to his Cuban trova colleagues, sharing intimate versions of “Te perdono” by Noel Nicola and «Créeme» with his daughter, Malva Rodríguez González, on the piano. The most significant moment in this segment was the beautiful performance of “Yolanda”, by Pablo Milanésa recently deceased generation companion.
The concert also had a break thanks to the poet and journalist Jorge Boccanerainvited to the stage to recite poems. Boccanera generated a «parenthesis of silence» and dedicated his poem «Will the south be possible?» to the workers of the Garrahan Hospital, appealing to the illusion and the futuretopics that flew over all night.
The evening came to a close with classics like “Song of the Chosen One,” the power of «The fool» —an ode to perseverance and ideals—, “History of the Chairs” and “Rabo de Nube,” performed only with his guitar, making it clear that, although the troubadour’s voice feels tired, his poetry is invincible and eternal.
