Tchéky Karyo, the actor of “The Bear” and “Nikita”, died: he was 72 years old

The Franco-Turkish actor Tchéky Karyo He died this Friday at the age of 72, his family reported in a message broadcast by the Franceinfo network. He became famous for his participation in countless films from the eighties, nineties and two thousand, mainly.

“Valérie Keruzoré, his wife, and their children communicate with deep sorrow the death of Tchéky Karyo due to cancer,” the message says.

Born in Istanbul as New Djaki Karyoemigrated with his family to Paris and trained in theater before consolidating an extensive career in film and television both in France and in international productions.

He joined the National Theater from Strasbourg and worked in classical and contemporary repertoire. This theatrical base marked his profile as a character actor and facilitated his transition to French cinema in the eighties. His stage name, Tchéky, adopted the French spelling from his birth name.

He achieved early notoriety with Libra (1982)for which he obtained a César nomination as best new actor, and gained international exposure with The Bear (1988) y Nikita (1990).

In recent decades he maintained a presence in series such as The Missing and its spin-off Baptistewhich reinforced its visibility outside France.

In addition to being an actor, Karyo was a musician and composer: he published the album This bond that unites us in 2006 and launched Credo in 2013 for his 60th birthday.

His filmography includes nearly 100 titles between films and serieswith recurring collaborations with performers and directors of European cinema.

His family asked for respect for privacy in this time of mourning, according to statements released by international agencies.
