The dissemination of a photo of the Buenos Aires Minister of Labor, Walter Correa, together with the port leader Héctor “Piru” Rojas, of the United Argentine Port Union (SUPA) Bajo Paraná, generated noise within the Buenos Aires unionism and revived internal tensions at a time of strong political realignment after the elections.
The meeting took place days ago, with the presence of the deputy secretary Pedro Bassi, Carlos Suárez (technical support) and Osvaldo Cano, from the Trade Employees Union of Lanús and Avellaneda (SECLA). From the minister’s entourage they explained that it was a protocol meeting within the usual agenda of dialogue with unions from different branches.
But the photo next to Rojas, a reference that draws media complaints and union conflicts in the port of Zárate, was read with discomfort by various union sectors, especially at the state level. According to different union sources, several important leaders took the opportunity to share the note published by a union portal that included the image and circulated it internally, amplifying the impact, in a context where power relations within the Buenos Aires labor movement are under review.
