Dackel is a breed of dog originating in Germany in the 19th century. These dogs, known in Spanish as «sausage dogs» due to their shape or with other names such as Dachshund or Teckel, They have the particularity of having very short legs in relation to their body.

According to their size and weight they can be classified into standard (9 kg-15 kg), miniature (5 kg-9 kg) y rabbit (3kg-5kg). The size of the males goes from 37 to 47 centimeters in its standard measurement, while that of females, from 35 to 45 cm.

The event was held within the framework of the dog festival Dogworld and was sponsored by a renowned insurance company. It took place at MotorWorld in Munich, Germany on October 11-12.

More than 120 dogs competed in the race, mostly from Austria, Switzerland and the host country itself. Their owners could enter them in weight categories on the event’s official website in exchange for 55 euros for each animal.

In the videos of the race you can see how some Dackel went forward and how others got lost on the circuit, which consisted of a direct route, without curves, 40 meters long.

The timing of the animals was carried out with “cutting-edge” technology, says the DogWorld website. It consisted of a tracking chip for maximum precision and an arrival camera.

To be able to participate, the dogs had to weigh approximately 15 kilograms and, in the case of females, not be in heat.

The event was created three years ago by Désirée Rohrer and Kay MacKenneth to make “an unforgettable experience for dog lovers and their four-legged friends”, and is already preparing for a new edition next year.

At DogWorld there were also other activities related to dogs, in addition to the world race, such as workshops, shows, conferences or shopping stalls.
