On Wednesday, the owner of a supermarket MD in Caivano, Naples, alerted the police authorities about a situation of extreme danger: a man tried to kidnap a child at the door of the premises.
The video of the moment was recorded by security cameras. At the same time, the carabinieri reported what happened in an article shared on their website.
“He tried to kidnap a child”denounced the owner of the supermarket in her conversation with the police. It was after a 45-year-old man intercepted a mother and her five-year-old son when she was leaving to go shopping with another woman and an eight-year-old boy.
“This is not your son, give it to me.”the kidnapper, a Ghanaian with «several criminal records,» told the child’s mother, according to the carabinieri. «He is visibly drunk and accompanied by two other people, but then he decides to approach the two women who were in front of the sliding door,» details the official statement.
And the story continues: «The man approaches the child and tries to pick him up. The woman’s friend intervenes. He does not give up and tries to grab the baby. ‘Mom!’ the scared child shouts. At that moment, the woman takes her son and enters the supermarket near the checkout. The man follows them and even tries to grab the child inside the store. A cashier intervenes, protecting him from the screams.»
After the employee intervened, the man backed away and fled. The child’s father arrived at the scene and picked up the woman and her son in his car, who left without explaining anything or filing a complaint.
«She is so shocked that she does not say a word or tell anyone what just happened. The family arrives home and shortly after there is a knock on the door: it is the Carabineros, who have just reconstructed the events and saw everything thanks to the security cameras. The woman breaks down crying and recounts those terrifying moments,» the report continues.
The suspect was located shortly after in the vicinity of the scene and arrested. He is currently in prison and faces charges of kidnapping attempt.
Three days earlier, a similar case
Three days ago something similar happened in a supermarket in Bergamo. The cameras recorded how a man lifts a girl off the ground and takes her to her mother while the father pushed the shopping cart.
Immediately, the man and several clients managed to immobilize him and recover the girl and hold him until the police arrived.
The couple’s daughter was treated at the Papa Giovanni hospital, where it was determined that she suffered a fractured femur.

The aggressor, unlike Caivano, is a 47-year-old Romanian man with no fixed address or criminal record and psychiatric diagnoses. It is believed that he had been wandering around different cities for some time without a fixed destination.
Her lawyer told the media that her client did not know if she was a girl or a stuffed animal and that “It was a thoughtless gesture”. He requested a psychiatric examination. He explained that the man was not wearing shoes nor did he have a phone or luggage.
