An internal report from the PRO, a party led by Mauricio Macri, provided a harsh x-ray on the economic situation and the social impact of Javier Milei’s government. The work, prepared by the Think Foundation (he think tank of space), exposes the depth of the recession and adjustment, just days before the legislative elections.
The study, titled «The Accountant»uses economic data and a social survey from the consulting firm Casa Tres, by Mora Jozami. Among the most sensitive conclusions are:
Economic decline and employment
- Job losses: The destruction of more than 300 thousand jobs since the assumption of Milei.
- Wage deficiency: He 49% of those surveyed state that their salary is not enough to make ends meet. This percentage rises to 58% in people between 50 and 65 years old.
- Loss of purchasing power: Although a salary recovery is mentioned in the last six months, salaries are still approximately 10 points below of 2023 levels, before the current government took office.
- Fear of losing your job: He 52% of workers fear being unemployed.
Social pessimism and disapproval
- Future perspectives: Almost 7 out of 10 people (70%) they assure that “the worst is happening now” (27%) o «it’s about to happen» (43%)contradicting the official message that the most serious thing is behind us. Only 26% believe that the worst moment of the crisis has already passed.
- Management capacity: Half of Argentines (50%) considers that the Government does not have the capacity to solve the country’s problems, while 34% ask for more time.
- Main problem of the country: The economy (17%) ranks as the main concern, closely followed by corruption. In fact, the President himself, Milei, appears as the fourth problem that people report.
- Family impact: He 58% of those surveyed affirm that the President is not solving the problems that directly affect their family.
The report concludes that, in the face of the crisis, the 63% of families have had to give up some service or activity, with leisure (54%) and replacing brands with cheaper variants (34%) being the main strategies to try to make ends meet. In turn, the 55% of those consulted expressed their displeasure with the «forms» of the Government.
