Environmental organizations, together with sectors of the opposition, called for a mobilization in front of the National Congress within the framework of the debate for the reform of the Glacier Law. The protest seeks to make visible the rejection of the limits imposed on citizen participation in public hearings.
The call arises after Justice rejected a request to expand the number of speakers in the legislative debate process. According to the organizers, the restriction reduces social representation in a key discussion about a norm that regulates strategic areas for the environment.
The mobilization will take place simultaneously with the start of public hearings in the Chamber of Deputies, where only a limited group of speakers will be able to participate in the first days of the project’s treatment. In this context, the protesters seek to express their demand for greater openness and plurality in the debate.

The protest is promoted by the “La Ley de Glaciares No Se Toca” campaign, which brings together socio-environmental organizations, along with the support of opposition political spaces, unions and social sectors. From there they warn that the discussion cannot advance without guaranteeing broad and effective participation of citizens.
In this framework, the call focuses on the right to public participation in environmental issues and the need for legislative treatment to consider all the voices involved, in a debate that has a direct impact on strategic natural resources such as water.
