The Municipality of Tigre launched a strong complaint against the decision to suspend the Miter Train service on its branch to Retiro for 49 days. The measurement, scheduled from January 10 to February 28, 2026 under the excuse of “urgent security work”, it is described by the commune as a “huge irresponsibility” that will affect workers, merchants and the entire summer tourist season.
A blow to workers and the local economy
According to the municipal statement, the suspension will seriously affect thousands of workers who depend on the train for their daily trips, whose budgets “cannot support the prohibitive cost” of bus travel. In addition, the municipality emphasizes the impact on the local economy: Tigre, as the country’s first local tourism destinationreceives a large influx of visitors on weekends through this means of transportation.
“49 days without a train is equivalent to losing the entire summer season”they declared from the municipality, warning that the economic damage will be enormous for businesses, tourism providers and residents whose main source of income depends on the sector.
Lack of dialogue and a worsening situation
The local government indicated that it has searched “without success” for channels of dialogue with the National Government and Argentine Trains to reconsider cutting off an “essential service,” but they were not heard. Added to this situation is the recent decision of the bus line 60which ended its historical journey Constitution-Tigerfragmenting it arbitrarily and accentuating, according to the municipality, the “isolation” to which the district is subjected.
A concrete demand to alleviate the crisis
Given the measure, the Municipality of Tigre demands that mitigation measures be implemented. The specific proposal is provision of a special bus corridor that supplies, at least, the route of the Miter Train between Retiro and Tigre. “Something that, at least, will help alleviate the enormous damage that will be caused to the people of Tigre and its economy”concluded the official statement.
