Tools to lead from your personal brand

By Mariela Navazo, Bachelor of Marketing and CEO of MKT Activa

In a context where authority no longer depends only on position, personal branding becomes a concrete way to generate influence with coherence, identity and purpose. How to build your own leadership without overacting or becoming a character.

Today, it is not the one who speaks the most or the one who has the highest role who leads, but rather the one who transmits clarity and coherence between what he thinks, says and does. The personal brand, well built, is not an empty exhibition: it is direction. It can become an everyday tool to influence, decide better and occupy a place with authenticity.

For a long time, leadership was associated with position, hierarchy and formal authority. Today that model is no longer enough. In changing and more horizontal environments, people connect with those who convey coherence, clarity and purpose. That’s where personal branding stops being just a positioning tool and becomes an authentic way to influence.

It’s not about showing up more, but about showing up better: with intention, identity and direction.

The personal brand is the space where what we think, what we communicate and the decisions we make align. When that alignment exists, trust appears. It is perceived in how someone participates in a meeting, in how they express an idea, in which conversations they choose to give and in which they do not. Leading from there means occupying your own place, without overacting or copying other people’s models.

Many times the brake is not a lack of ability, but rather the fear of exposing oneself. Professionals with experience and judgment remain invisible because they wait for the perfect moment, external recognition or total validation. But today influence is not only born from expertise: it is born from the ability to translate the message, presence and visible criteria.

It is not permanent self-promotion: it is sustained coherence.

A clear personal brand commands. It helps decide which projects to accept, what spaces to build, and what themes to represent. It works as a decision framework. When that happens, communication flows with less effort and more meaning. There is no character: there is direction.

In practice, leading from your personal brand involves three specific movements:

  • Define what represents you. Not only what you know how to do, but from what values and perspective you do it.
  • Choose which conversations you want to enable. Not to talk about everything, but about what you can provide criteria.
  • Maintain consistency over time. Between what you say, what you do and how you respond.

Leadership then becomes closer and more human. It does not depend on imposing but on generating reference. He does not seek constant approval but rather consistency.

Occupying a place is not exposing yourself without a filter. It is encouraging yourself to be present with identity and conviction. Because when the personal brand is authentic, the influence is not forced: it expands.

Practical tools to get started

Review your presence
Review how you present yourself in networks, meetings and professional conversations. Does your message reflect your outlook and your values or just your role?

I defined three core themes
I chose three topics on which you want to be professionally associated. That orders your communication and avoids dispersion.

I turned experience into visible criteria
In addition to knowing, I shared learnings, points of view and decisions. Leading is also interpreting, not just executing.

Practice presence, not overexposure
It is not about publishing everything: it is about participating meaningfully in the right spaces.

Make decisions aligned with your positioning
Saying no also builds a personal brand.

In a scenario where everything changes quickly, the personal brand works as a compass. It is not a label or a window: it is a way to stop, choose and communicate with meaning. Leading from there does not require perfection, but conscious presence. Because taking a place is not about becoming someone different, but rather encouraging oneself—with clarity—to be visible from what one is and what one can contribute.
