Modern suburbs thus reveal themselves as repositories of deep memories, yet to be explored,» says Daniela Porro, special superintendent of Rome and responsible for the implementation of an urban planning program in the Parco delle Acacie 2 area, along Via di Pietralata.
There are still many mysteries
Started in the summer of 2022, investigations continue and have revealed an area of great interest covering approximately one hectare, which attests to an occupation from the 5th-4th centuries BC. C. until the 1st century AD. C. and, less frequently, between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. c.
The entrance to the temple (ANSA).In ancient times, a long road crossed the excavation areaon land that once crossed a watercourse that flowed into the nearby Aniene River.
«The identified tombs constitute important evidence of the occupation of this part of the suburb by a wealthy family group, while the two monumental pools open interesting avenues of research,» explains Fabrizio Santi.
«They could be structures related to ritual activities or, less likely, with productive purposes or water collection. An in-depth scientific study will allow us to contextualize these findings and understand their role in the ancient landscape, returning to the community the true meaning of these testimonies of the past,» says the expert.
