The efforts to rescue 40 workers trapped in an under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi hit another roadblock after the new machine could not drill further. Col. Deepak Patil, head of the rescue operation indicated that equipment for a possible new option is enroute after rescue workers already drilled 24 metres through the rubble but need to drill to a distance of 60 metres to insert broad diameter piipes until an escape passage is created, said the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
