It is, perhaps, the most photographed and mysterious house in Buenos Aires. Located at the top of a building in Sarmiento at 1100the “Diaz chalet” returned to the real estate market and aroused the curiosity of all the neighbors. The complete complex, which includes the nine-story office building, is offered for a figure close to 8 million dollars.

A story of success and nostalgia
built in 1927 By the Spanish immigrant Rafael Díaz, the chalet was born as a resting place for the owner of the largest furniture store in South America at that time. The curious thing is that the chalet predates Avenida 9 de Julio itself and the Obelisk: Díaz designed it inspired by the houses in Mar del Plata so that he could have lunch and take a nap with «coastal air» before returning to work.
Property details:
- Surface: The chalet has 200 m² covered distributed over two floors and a loft.
- Heritage: was declared Integral Asset of the Cultural Heritage of the Citywhich means that its original façade and structure cannot be modified.
- Unique views: It has two terraces that offer one of the most exclusive panoramic views of downtown Buenos Aires.
- State: It preserves pine floors, original openings and period lighting.
A future with restrictions
Whoever buys this gem will not be able to do anything. Being protected by the Ley 1227any remodeling project must be authorized by the City’s Culture area. The building has more than 10,000 total square meters, including commercial premises on the ground floor and offices.
«It is more than a property; «It is a symbol of the progress of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century,» say urban heritage specialists.
Did you know what?
The chalet was a private mystery for decades. However, it had illustrious visitors: in the 70s, the same Luis Alberto Spinetta and his group Almendra held photo sessions up there.
