Buenos Aires teaching strike: unions ratify a 24-hour force measure and classes in La Plata suffer
The teaching of classes in schools in the province of Buenos Aires was strongly affected today, Tuesday, June 30, due to a 24-hour strike called by various education union sectors. The measure of force comes in the middle of a joint negotiation that, according to the unions, is «bogged down» and without satisfactory responses from the provincial government.
The main demand focuses on an urgent salary restructuring that manages to confront inflation and avoid the loss of purchasing power. In addition to the economic aspect, the unions denounce the lack of resources and a context of «adjustment» that directly impacts working conditions within educational institutions.
The impact on La Plata schools
In La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada, the measure of force is having uneven compliance depending on each institution and the adherence of teachers to the different union groups (both the official leadership and the dissident factions that promoted the measure from the bases).
Given this scenario, the educational authorities recommended that parents and guardians remain in direct contact with the directors and teachers of each school to confirm if the students will have normal classes, a reduced day or if the establishment will remain closed.
Meanwhile, it is expected that in the next few hours there will be news about a possible new call by the Province to try to unblock the salary conflict and guarantee the continuity of the school year and the normalization of classes for the rest of the week.
